Democrats are Wimps, They Need Hollywood
Reported by Melanie - October 27, 2004 -
Glen Pere, owner of The Pere Partnership, an advertising agency, was a guest today (October 27, 2004) on Dayside w/Linda Vester. Pere's agency recently conducted a study on how the public feels about celebrities being involved in politicial campaigns. Describing the mechanics of the poll, Pere said his agency went to the "top ten markets across the country," contacted "likely voters," both Democrats and Republicans, and found that 65% of those contacted would have more respect for, and would be more likely to vote for a candidate who wasn't "surrounded by celebrities."
During the interview, the following celebrities were either mentioned or named in the banner at the bottom of the screen.
Pro-Kerry
Ashton Kutcher
Bruce Springsteen
Michael Moore
P. Diddy
Bill Clinton
Oprah Winfrey
Michael J. Fox
Jon Bon Jovi
Tim Robbins
Pro-Bush
Fred Thompson
"Nascar drivers and owners"
Rudi Giuliani
COMMENT: As you can see, three times more left-leaning celebrities were named, and the three "celebrities" linked to Bush are macho-men. I've seen many, many segments like this on Fox this year. Fox presents them in such a way as to make Democratic candidates appear desperate, boring and needy, incapable of drawing audiences on their own without linking to a celebrity; and foolish because they rely on celebrities to attract attention even when "most people" don't think celebrities should be involved. It's one of the ways in which Fox "disses" Democrats without being too loud about it.
