The FOX Pot Calling The Kettle Black
Reported by Ellen - October 25, 2004 -
From today's FOXNews.com: America Under Attack... by British Media. It seems the so-called "fair and balanced" network that hawks "boycott France" bumper stickers, ridicules the UN and "old Europe," is upset by anti-American sentiment in England.
Here are a few examples of FOX's unintentionally ironic comments:
"Anyone thumbing through The Guardian's weekly entertainment guide this past weekend could be forgiven for spitting coffee all over the couch when they reached the television listings section (because of the critical-of-Bush programming)."
"Taking on George W. Bush's performance during the recent debates, (The Guardian writer) Brooker dubbed the president a 'lying, sniggering, drink-driving, selfish, reckless, ignorant, dangerous, backward, drooling, twitching, blinking, mouse-faced little cheat.'" Yet, Hannity's rants about Kerry, Kennedy, and other Democrats are seemingly OK, such as this "question" to Terry McAuliffe, chairman of the Democratic National Committee: "I want to know if you support your candidate repeatedly referring to the president as misleading and lying to the country and Ted Kennedy saying he concocted a war for political gain, Howard Dean saying that the president knew about 9/11 ahead of time, Dennis Kucinich saying that he targeted civilians for assassination these are the leaders of YOUR PARTY (his emphasis). and "Saddam would still be in power if Kerry was president." See my post on 10/13/04 presidential debate.
Here's my personal favorite: "It's the week before the election, of course, and programmers are scurrying to get their harangues on the air while there's still some semblance of an excuse a 'news peg.'"
Comment: Is FOX referring to its own non-stop Kerry-bashing and Bush-promoting "news" programs? The Sinclair "news" documentary on Kerry? No, it's talking about the BBC. Where was the FOX outrage at Sinclair's broadcast? Nowhere to be found. FOX's "fair and balanced" outrage, it seems, only exists when the criticism is aimed at Bush.
