Besides Lying and Bullying, Hannity Hogged the Spotlight
Reported by Ellen - October 14, 2004 -
As if his other tactics weren't enough, Sean Hannity also hogged the spotlight away from his TV partner, Alan Colmes, last night, just in time to turn the topic away from a potentially embarrassing revelation about George W. Bush.
During the first segment of Hannity & Colmes, a smirking Dan Bartlett, White House Communications Director, spoke first with Sean Hannity (making sure that all the RNC talking-points got to the audience before anyone could refute them). When it was Colmes' turn to question Bartlett, Colmes asked about Bush's untrue statement, made during the debate, that he never said he was unconcerned about where Osama bin Laden was (Bush DID say it, on March 13, 2002 at a news conference at the White House).
Rather than allow this important news to be aired, Sean Hannity reached across the TV screen and put a "W 2004" hat on Bartlett's head, then on himself, in what could only be a blatant attempt to distract viewers away from the Bush criticism and keep the spotlight on Mr. Vannity, himself.
As Colmes continued to press his point, suddenly they were out of time. "We gotta break, Alan," Hannity said.
Comment: Funny how the fair and balanced thing only seems to apply when the Republicans get to do the talking
