Carl Cameron Shows His Bias Again at the Debate
Reported by Ellen - October 9, 2004 -
Carl Cameron, under fire for his blatant pro-Bush bias (most recently demonstrated by playing an anti-Kerry "prank" on FOXNews.com last week), seemed unconcerned about his lack of neutrality last night when he appeared on FOX News Live with Alan Colmes to discuss last night's presidential debate.
Reporting that the snap polls say Kerry won "by a couple of points," Cameron immediately added that, "They don't really mean much." He went on to note that President Bush "settled in" (whatever that means) after about 45 minutes into the debate, that he came out swinging so "he didn't look weak."
Apparently, that was crucial given the "difficult week" Bush had after the Duelfer report said there was no evidence of WMD's in Iraq. Cameron made sure to point out that the impact of the report's findings had been "modified" by others in the Bush Administration, a qualification Cameron would have been unlikely to have made had such a report come out under the same conditions in the Clinton Administration. In fact, the same kind of "difficult week" Bush had would almost certainly have been a "devastating week" for Clinton.
As for Kerry, Cameron reported, apropos of nothing, that Kerry had hired Jessie Jackson to "help" with the African-American vote (insinuating - falsely - that Kerry was in danger of losing it). Cameron immediately added that "Of course," it's the Hispanic vote that is the hot constituency.
Cameron didn't leave out the FOX trademark that goes with any Kerry report, the accusation of being a flip-flopper. "Kerry still hasn't answered some of the questions he gets accused of flip-flopping on," Cameron said.
Comment: Do you think these are the kinds of comments a reporter covering the Kerry campaign should make? I don't. If you agree with me, join MoveOn.org in asking for Carl Cameron's dismissal. Send your comments to comments@foxnews.com.
