Bush Alters His Slur and Other Items of Interest

Reported by Marie Therese - October 7, 2004 -

Some highlights of the Big Story with John Gibson that aired on October 06, 2004:

President Bush has slightly altered his new slur: Instead of "Hillary Care" he's now calling it "Clinton Care.'

Campaign Carl Cameron, back after his ill-advised "prank," noted that, although Cheney appeared to win the Vice Presidential debate, "undecided voters tend to be predisposed towards change in supporting a challenger."

Cameron noted that regarding the President, Democrats "don't say it like this, but it comes down to he's either lying or crazy. It is the harshest rhetoric Kerry has come up with yet ... The Bush campaign has signaled that in the coming days ahead they will come up with a comprehensive carpet bomb of direct mail ads, criticism from Mr. Cheney, Mr. Bush and surrogates across the country trying to tear apart Senator Kerry's 20-year record in the Senate or what Republicans say is a lack of it."

Ken Mehlman, Bush-Cheney ‘04 Campaign manager, made the argument yet again that "if Kerry-Edwards couldn't take on Saddam Hussein in Iowa how are they gonna take on the terrorists in Iraq." (Gibson had to correct him noting that he really meant "Howard Dean in Iowa".)

(My comment: Wouldn't it be great of the Democrats actually answered this talking point? How about saying something like "Howard Dean is NOT the Democratic nominee for President. I am. By your own reasoning, since I took on and defeated Howard Dean, I must therefore be well positioned to defeat Osama bin Laden which I intend to do once I am elected President. and, oh yes, before you drag out my ‘global test' comment, if terrorism is a global problem, why are we - like Don Quixote - tilting at the terrorism windmill all by ourselves? A global problem requires a global solution. If we do not maintain respectful, dynamic contact with other nations, we cannot win the war on terror because it is a global war. My opponent would have you believe the war on terror is localized in one region of the world. Nothing could be farther from the truth. But you don't cement good relations by insulting your allies, then asking them to supply troops and support. Those are the actions of a bully, not a world leader!" Gee, it felt good just to WRITE that!)

Gibson dragged out the now overused excuse that President was "off his game" on Thursday because he was "out working crowds and talking to people in Florida about the hurricanes."

Mehlman responded that "he's energized by going out on the road. He loves talking to the American people." (My comment: As long as they're pre-screened and sign an statement saying they will vote for him!)

An ad was aired for FAHRENHYPE 9/11, a rebuttal of Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11, which came out this week on DVD. Fahrenheit 9/11 is available at Amazon.com (where I pre-ordered my copy) and other outlets. FAHRENHYPE 9/11 is only available at - get this! - Overstock.com, the online site that sells discounted batches of overstocked items. I admit that I chuckled at bit at that one.
