No Surprise: An Unbalanced Line-up on Hannity & Colmes Declares Cheney The Winner
Reported by Ellen - October 6, 2004 -
Last night's special debate version of Hannity & Colmes featured a line-up of guests guaranteed to make sure Cheney came out the winner.
First up was Mary Matalin, Republican advisor. No surprise that the heaviest Cheney-gun would be up first to set the tone. Next was "DNC Advisor" Howard Wolfson, who had a different perspective. He was followed by Jack Kemp, former Republican Vice Presidential candidate and Democratic Senator Dick Durbin. They each declared their own side the winner, of course.
In between somewhere was Dick's daughter, Liz Cheney, who pumped up the personal side of her father by letting us know that he has no animosity toward John Edwards, "He just doesn't know him." (Comment: This was proven untrue less than an hour later on Alan Colmes' radio show immediately following).
Sean Hannity also took the opportunity to pry out of Liz that her father is "smart." That offered an opening for Hannity to opine that "It's years of preparation, like he was almost groomed for this time. As opposed to John Edwards just getting his feet wet."
Liz Cheney responded, "My Dad really understands the gravity of the situation."
Really hard-hitting stuff there.
The last guest was FOX News' favorite "Democrat," "Former Democratic Strategist" Pat Caddell. Read more about him at mediamatters.org. Some of the insights this "Democrat" offered were:
"Cheney sort of ran away with it."
"You have to hand it to Cheney. He had the better lines."
"I wouldn't have used it as a closing line (Edwards saying that "America's bright light is flickering").
Unfortunately for Caddell, FOXNews.com's viewer poll indicates Edwards beat Cheney 52 to 46%.
Guest tally: three Republicans, two Democrats, one faux Democrat
