SS,DD...Fear and hype

Reported by Chrish - September 28, 2004 -

Jane Skinner substituted for Shepard Smith today (9/27) on Studio B, 3:00 EDT. Much of the show was spent on speculation about the upcoming debates and the candidates preparations for them.

I was taken aback by Carl Cameron's use of the term "murder room" when referring to John Kerry's debate practicing. I have never heard that phrase before and found it very negative and disturbing. Of course it was not repeated in Mike Centanni's report on Bush's practices. Add that one to Melanie's observations in Kerry Can't do Anything Right and paint the Kerry picture even darker. In contrast, the coverage of Bush's day included footage of him repeating his soundbite lies about John Kerry and getting a laugh from his hand-picked audience. (Something like 'Kerry could spend 90 minutes debating himself.') Wonder what W would do with himself for 90 minutes.

Also today, Jane interviewed Elaine Shannon of Time Magazine for nearly five minutes about a current article by Ms. Shannon about the federal agencies' "aggressive plan to stop election terror", which apparently involves an alert citizenship looking for rocket launchers in back seats. John McCutcheon's song "Ashcroft's Army" can be our newspeak national anthem.

Interestingly, the fear segment was immediately followed by a commercial for First Alert home alarm systems being hawked by a Jonathan Hunt sound-alike. What targeted ad placement!
