Cavuto Gets Stiffed
Reported by Melanie - September 28, 2004 -
Today (September 28, 2004) Adel Al-Jubeir, the Saudi Foreign Affairs Adviser, was a guest on Your World w/Neil Cavuto. Mr. Al-Jubeir was on to talk about how hard the Saudis are working to increase oil production in the face of high oil prices. At the end of the interview, Cavuto tried to get him to say who he would prefer be our next president.
At the end of the interview, Cavuto asked Al-Jubeir: "So, do you have a horse in this race?" Al-Jubeir was very diplomatic in answering: "We really don't have a horse in this race. We deal with every administration, every president, regardless of their political party or affiliation. We have very close ties with the Bush family, as we have with the Clinton family and every other president going back to president Roosevelt. Our countries are allies. Our countries cooperate and work closely together in the war against terrorism and for peace and stability in the Middle East and it is vital that this cooperation continue if we...."
With a smirk on his face and practically begging for a name, Cavuto interrupted: "Who do you slightly favor? Is there someone you slightly favor?"
Al-Jubeir responded: "This is really up to the American people. Whoever the American people choose as their leader, that's who we deal with."
COMMENT: If Neil Cavuto thinks (or knows) a guest is pro-Bush, he's fond of asking them who they're going to vote for in November. He doesn't ask if he's quite sure a guest is a Democrat (such as later in today's show when Russell Simmons was on). When a guest is willing to reveal who they're voting for, and when it's Bush (Cavuto has been surprised a few times), it's as if Cavuto's saying, "See! Look at this hot shot. He's voting for Bush and you should too."
