The Kerrys and CBS

Reported by Eleanor - September 24, 2004 -

Big Story with John Gibson (Sept. 24, 5:00 p.m.) started off with a discussion of CBS, and evolved into a discussion of Iraq with Charles Black and Howard Wolfson. Black "stretched" the truth, using numbers, in both discussions.

Black: They talked to them "repeatedly." (CBS and the democrats). Wolfson: Repeated contacts are not true. Black: Kerry has changed his positions on Iraq ten or eleven times. He blows with the wind. Howard: Iraq is headed in the wrong direction. Americans on the ground say something different. People are beheaded and dying. Black: We haven't heard what Kerry would do. He has 33 different positions, and 32 we're already doing. Gibson: When John Kerry is more "hawkish," that gets allies? Wolfson: When Bush can't do it, does that mean it can't be done?

Teresa Heinz Kerry got it again with her comment about an Osama bin Laden "surprise" before the election. Gibson: Teresa H. Kerry said we're holding OBL, and will trot him out at an opportune moment. Is she a time bomb for the campaign? She should stop speaking French in public.

In a final discussion about CBS, Gibson and Gary B. Smith talked about the CEO of Viacom (owner of CBS) voting for Bush, although he's a democrat. Smith: "Any corporate CEO will do what's best for stockholders."
