How is this betrayal?

Reported by Chrish - September 22, 2004 -

At the top of the hour on Studio B, Shepard Smith today (9/22) introduced a segment with Major Garrett with "'Swift Boat Veterans for Truth', as they call themselves, are now charging that John Kerry betrayed his country". Major parroted that smear before launching into a recitation of the facts according to FOX:

JK went to Paris in 1970 to meet with a North Viet Namese delegation.
A top historian of the anti-war movement (later identified as Gerald Nicosia) says JK made a second trip in the summer of 1971. FOX News has obtained a newspaper clipping from FBI file on JK that "appears to confirm" that.
Even so, Kerry camp denies he ever made second trip to Paris to meet with the North Viet Namese.
In April 0f '71 JK testified about '70 meeting, the purpose of which was to find a way to win release of POWs.
Gerald Nicosia then states JK's trips were "fact-finding". Pat Caddell, "Democratic strategist" (with friends like him...) is then shown saying something inane about "tremendous emotions" and "disaster for the Kerry campaign."

Comment: FOX managed to give more air-time to the Smear Boat vets and twice repeated the slander that JK betrayed the US. The story as reported by Garrett was insubstantial and meaningless and did not support the charge. To show how fair and balanced they are FOX then brought out an alleged Democrat to not dispute the false charge and reinforce for the mindless viewer that this is horrible for JK.
