Could Fox Survive w/o Ignorant Viewers?

Reported by Melanie - September 15, 2004 -

After introducing guest and fellow Fox News employee Oliver North today (September 15, 2004) on Your World, Neil Cavuto said he wanted to ask about a few things, including the "hullabaloo" over the "Purple Heart thing with Senator Kerry."

North said the real issue isn't what Kerry did or didn't do in Vietnam, but what he did after he came home, including "that testimony that he gave back there in 1971. The secret meetings that he had with our enemies in Paris and his record in the United States Senate. Whether John Kerry doctored up his record or got awards he didn't deserve."

North said officers "always" got more than they deserved, while the troops didn't get the recognition they warranted. As North spoke, Fox showed video of a long-haired Kerry testifying before the Senate.

North said Kerry's record is "replete with his actions against those that he served with. Against those of us who served there, the 2-1/2 million of us, and since then to the Armed Forces of the United States."

Cavuto: So you did not see the atrocities Kerrry saw or recounted from other stories? North: "No. I did not." In fact, North said, of the Marines he served with, 31 of whom are still alive, "not one of us ever committed an atrocity. Not one of us ever saw one."

COMMENT: I could say so much about this but let me concentrate on the atrocities. North may not have committed an atrocity in Vietnam. He may not have seen one. But they happened. I was alive then and I know. Has "news" turned into a game of counting on the ignorance of the audience, instead of one of informing the audience?

P.S. What's an interview like this doing on a business show?
