Paperwork Flap

Reported by Eleanor - September 10, 2004 -

Fox & Friends (Sept. 10, 7:00 a.m.) covered the story of the 60 Minutes Bush National Guard documents four times. Greg Kelly provided the best summary of the issue.

Kelly said that neither candidate is mentioning the controversy, but everyone else is talking about it. Doubts have been raised about the authenticity of the documents. The question is "were they done in Microsoft Word on a computer, or on a 1970's typewriter?" Experts are looking at this, including CBS, that has already said they were thoroughly vetted. Daedre Levine, the only democrat on the program, responded that "it was not the Kerry campaign" that published these documents, when Steve Doocy and Mike Gallagher indicated that the Kerry campaign might be involved somehow in this story. This discussion took up about half the program.

As a wrap-up to this topic, Mancow, the radio host, made some really crude, ugly jokes about Kerry, not worthy of repeating here, but he carried the message about the lack of credibility of "paperwork," and compared John Kerry's intelligence to a gorilla. The Fox Friends can convey these messages through Mancow without getting into the mud themselves. Mancow is often very conveniently used for that sort of sleaze.
