Docu Drama and Terror
Reported by Eleanor - September 10, 2004 -
Studio B with Shep Smith (Sept. 10, 3:00 p.m.) covered the "Docu Drama" again, asking if "Dan Was Duped." The coverage wasn't quite as flip as the phrases to describe it. Jerry Killian's son Gary said he "doesn't think they're authentic," and the White House sees this as "a coordinated effort by the democrats to tear down the president." Condi Rice discussed terror and 9/11.
James Rosen focused on Bush's honorable discharge, although we can't account for his whereabouts for a few months in 1972. He repeated that the type fonts on the 60 Minutes documents didn't exist at that time, and Gary Killian said the papers didn't come from the family.
Steve Brown reported that the Brady Bill expires on Monday banning 19 types of semi-automatic weapons, and the democrats are touting the president's "inaction" on the bill. Kerry said that Al Qaeda is telling their people to buy assault weapons. Al Gore lost votes in 2000 when the opposition said he would "chip away at gun owner rights."
Cheney is backtracking on his recent comment about an attack if democrats are elected. His new statement says that a Kerry election would not "necessarily" mean we will be attacked again. Gore called the comment by Cheney a "sleazy, despicable effort to blackmail voters." Now, Cheney says to brace for a potential attack no matter who is elected president. (A flip flop?)
When Shep asked Condi Rice about the Cheney comment concerning being more vulnerable if Kerry is president, she replied that Cheney "explained what he meant," and he didn't mean to personalize it. She said it's "important to be on the offense." She added that we have a world-wide coalition, and it's "false that we're going it alone." When asked about the difference between now and pre-9/11, she responded that she now starts each day with a terror report and a daily meeting. "We have sources of information we didn't have before 9/11." Before 9/11, there was very little chatter. "It's good that we have more chatter now."
Comment: No democrats were interviewed to counter the "Docu Drama" or the terror information.
