Compare the Campaign Coverage

Reported by Ellen - September 7, 2004 -

Even the names of the video reports on FOXNews.com show bias. "Bush Swings Through Three States That He Lost in 2000." "Kerry Scrambles to Get in the Public Eye After Laying Low All Week." Bush swings, Kerry scrambles.

The Bush story shows Bush looking presidential in scene after scene in front of huge, adoring crowds with signs, before showcasing the latest Time poll numbers with lively graphics. Funny, but the poll numbers were never emphasized back when they broke for Kerry. Bet they won't if Kerry surges back, either.

Kerry, meanwhile, is made to look like a loser. He holds a "front porch campaign event" (much smaller crowd than Bush's) where he is "once again" upstaged by Clinton. Reporter Carl Cameron (an obvious Bush supporter as seen in the movie, Outfoxed) snidely reports that Kerry "publicly" wished Clinton well, thereby implying that Kerry felt differently in private. Then Cameron reports that, after two weeks of "what Kerry called 'angry GOP convention rhetoric' and slipping polls" "tried to capture some momentum."

In typical Fox style, Kerry's strong remarks comparing his own service record to Bush and Cheney's are buried in the middle of the piece. Also, in typical Fox style, Cameron makes sure to add the Bush talking points that Bush never questioned Kerry's service record. Yet, in the Bush piece, reporter Jim Angle never questions or even elucidates Bush's reported claim that he has "ways" of lowering health costs.
