9/11 Commission & Democrats

Reported by Melanie - September 7, 2004 -

I noticed something interesting today (September 7, 2004) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto. At 4:34 p.m. ET, Cavuto tossed to Catherine Herridge for a report on what work Congress is doing to implement some of the recommendations made by the 9/11 Commission. Fox News has never been particularly fond of the 9/11 Commission and they've consistently painted a picture of it being much more left-leaning than bipartisan.

During Herridge's report, Fox aired video of Democrat Tom Daschle, a live shot of Democrat Barbara Mikulski in a Senate hearing room, then more video shots of Democrat Joe Lieberman and Democrat Evan Bayh.

After Herridge's report ended, Cavuto spoke live with Evan Bayh (D-IN) about the issue.

COMMENT: It struck me that during this segment Fox aired pictures only of Democrats, and then Cavuto interviewed only a Democrat. What message is Fox sending? That the 9/11 Commission was stacked with Democrats (even though it wasn't)? That Democrats are causing the hassles in getting things done? That if Congress doesn't pass measures proposed by the 9/11 Commission it'll be the fault of Democrats? That, if we get hit again, it's because the Democrats didn't act on the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission?
