Disorganized GOP Convention

Reported by Marie Therese - September 2, 2004 -

Has anybody noticed - just from the Convention Planner's perspective - how badly run the RNC shindig has been? Compared to the Democrats, it looks like amateur night in the school gym.

I began noticing it on Monday, when all of the people interviewed by FOX had to shout to be heard over the rehearsals going on. Last night Bush didn't show up in time for his big hook-up with the party faithful. Microphone connections between hosts and guests have been broken. The visuals are static. The campaign families are above and behind the speakers instead to the side, so any acknowledgements require the person at the podium to turn backwards and stare upwards in order to see them. And, trust me, no decent convention manager worth their salt would have allowed delegates to distribute and/or wear those insulting purple heart band-aids.

Contrast that to the Democratic Convention that stayed on time and on message, that showcased a LOT of different people with a variety of opinions from all walks of life. There was no noise bleed during interviews, even from the floor of the convention center.

I see this as a symbol of the styles of the two adminstrations.

Unprepared Republicans characterized by defamatory rhetoric, lots of booing and criticism, a ton of secrecy (gotta hide those conservatives and for heavens sake don't mention the words jobs or outsourcing!), missed cues and bad planning.

Rather like the way they handled the War in Iraq.

Contrast that to the Democrats characterized by snappy speeches, speaker diversity, no booing whatsoever, a positive message, happy faces, very few technical glitches and an ability to work around the unexpected (Al Sharpton adding 13 minutes to his speech).

Rather like they WILL handle the war in Iraq.

The difference has been striking to me. Has anyone else noticed it?
