Republican Love-In
Reported by Eleanor - September 1, 2004 -
A few tidbits worth noting from Fox & Friends (Sept. 1, 7:00 a.m.) during this week of republicans everywhere and democrats nowhere, except on swift boat ads.
E.D. Hill noted the irony of the "Shut up Fox" demonstrators outside the studio, and the lawyers in green hats protecting freedom of speech. (She didn't use the word "irony." That's mine. It's what she was trying to say. She failed to note that Fox uses its freedom of speech 24 hours a day. The demonstrators were expressing their displeasure at how that freedom is misused.)
The Fox friends praised the Bush daughters as "natural," but the twins got some bad reviews on their convention appearance. The comment that their hamster died was funny. (I found this comment by the daughters very telling. Kerry did mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a pet hamster. Bush's daughters make a joke of the death of their hamster. Is there some irony here too?)
Teresa Heinz Kerry got it twice. In this discussion, it was noted that Teresa talked about the "environment and herself" while Laura talked about her husband. In a later discussion, Steve Doocy compared Laura and Teresa by saying that Laura talked about the president and the issues, while Teresa "bombed" by talking about herself. The only negative about Laura was that she should have been on before Arnold because he is exciting.
According to Fox Friends, Bush cleared up the record on his war comments that were taken out of context. It's clarified now. Sen. Norm Coleman noted there are 1,000 issues, but this election is about terror, strong leadership and the strength found in George Bush. Doocy mentioned the star power of Arnold who "eclipsed" the democrats. E.D. said that the republicans are accused of hiding behind moderates. Fred Barnes responded that the republicans are hiding behind leaders. Michael Reagan, Ronald's other son, said that "embryonic stem cells are killing lab animals." Lynn and Liz Cheney did a fly fishing commentary on Dick Cheney, the family man.
Comment: This republican love-in is supposed to be followed later with an interview of Terry McAuliffe with the democratic response. It's interesting that democrats give their responses later, after the point has already been made, and viewers don't necessarily come back later. Typical Fox.
