GOP Focuses on Blacks and So Does Fox
Reported by Ellen - September 1, 2004 -
According to several news stories unearthed via Google News, including GOP Seeks Inroads Among Blacks, Republicans are making an effort to showcase and appeal to minorities at its convention. What a coincidence to find this story at FOXNews.com, Black Republicans: We're Growing Every Day.
The story, dated August 31, 2004, by Kelley Beaucar Vlahos begins:
"WASHINGTON While Democrats like to call the GOP the grand old party of white men, a packed reception for black Republicans at the Republican National Convention told a different story.
'I think that the Democrats want us to come to the table to eat the crumbs, but Republicans want us to come and eat at the banquet,' said Geraldine Sam of Lamarque, Texas, who is one of 20 black Republicans in the Texas delegation this year."
What further coincidence that Rod Paige, African-American Secretary of Education, and someone from the pro-GOP African-American Leadership Council were guests on Fox News Live with Alan Colmes last night. The night before (Monday), former Miss America Erika Harold was on that show as well as on Hannity & Colmes. While there's nothing remarkable about having African-American guests, the fact that there are so few African-American Republicans makes it all the more remarkable that there should be three such guests in such a short period of time. I can't remember such a concentration at any other time.
