Feeding the Beast
Reported by Marie Therese - August 31, 2004 -
Last night during John McCain's speech I saw the true face of the Republican Party.
The old soldier, John McCain, having been mercilessly trashed by George Bush in 2000, swallowed his pride, sucked up to his abusers, crawled back into the viper's bosom and, oh so sweetly and oh so cleverly, pushed an emotional button named Michael Moore. And the audience didn't disappoint. All the careful months of GOP filthspeak paid off in a torrent of hatred directed at one man - the filmmaker who had the guts to rip the mask off their plaster saint President.
The largely evangelical conservo-mob booed Moore just as they'd been primed to do by their puppet-masters - FOX, Sinclair Broadcasting, CBN, Clear Channel, CNN, MSNBC and CNBC.
The intensity of their reaction truly frightened me. The mere sound of the mob frightened me. While Moore smiled and tried to make light of it, I'm sure he was glad that he was safely tucked away in a control booth high above all of these compassionate conservatives.
Will you see this little incident repeated ad nauseam on the cable channels with all the booing?
Not on your life. Judicious cuts will be made highlighting McCain and downplaying the audience reaction. Shown over and over again, the kindly Republican delegates might begin to look more like the Romans in the bleachers than the Christians in the pit.
