Where Were the Anarchists, Martha?

Reported by Ellen - August 30, 2004 -

12:09 am. I just heard a replay of Martha MacCallum's report on the NYC protests on Sunday. She said, "This is the moment that the protesters, the police and some anarchists have been working toward." I don't think I have heard or read a single Fox news report that hasn't paired the protesters with "anarchists." (Note to J$: I'm not saying there weren't any ever, just what I think I have heard). Kind of like Saddam Hussein and 9/11.

Fox must be disappointed that the demonstrators were overwhelmingly peaceful and orderly. That wasn't highlighted, nor were the repeated anti-Fox chants. But the minor fire was. MacCallum said dramatically, "The source of the fire still being investigated." What, you couldn't blame it on the anarchists? Must have been the Clintons, then.

MacCallum also reported that the protest organizer, United for Peace and Justice, anticipated 250,000 protesters but added cagily that "early estimates put the number in the tens of thousands." In typical Fox fashion, she doesn't really refute the numbers but makes it sound as if. And that must have been very early, Martha, because The New York Times put the numbers in the hundreds of thousands. Or you could put it this way: It took five hours for all the protesters to pass Madison Square Garden.

I'd estimate that as better than anticipated.
