Tell FOXNews.com that McCain Condemned the Swift Boat Ads
Reported by Ellen - August 28, 2004 -
In an 8/27/04 FOXNews.com story about the so-called 527 groups' campaign ads, reporter Kelley Beaucar Vlahos writes that George W. Bush and John McCain did not condemn the swift boat ads. That's not true and I think we should insist that FOXNews.com correct that misinformation. Write them at Foxnewsonline@foxnews.com and let them know that only Bush has refused to condemn the ads.
The FOXNews.com story says:
While the Bush and McCain offices did not condemn the Swift Boat Veterans' ads outright, they believe that the spirit of the campaign finance reform law was to restrict any entities that actively advocate for the election or defeat of a federal candidate, including 527s.
In fact, McCain DID condemn the ads. According to Bloomberg.com on 8/27/04,
McCain "two weeks ago called the Swift boat group's ad dishonest and urged the White House to condemn it. McCain told the Washington Post Thursday that he still wanted Bush to condemn the ad and would raise the issue when he campaigned with the president next week."
