Demonstration Update NYC

Reported by Deborah - August 28, 2004 -

At 1PM, 8/28/04, CNN had some interesting coverage of the protests in NYC, that have already started, on a small scale, by specific groups.

On Friday night, four protesters, who were guests at the Plaza Hotel, went on the roof of the hotel to unfurl a huge banner. One of the police, responding to the call, was injured on a skylight but this was not connected to the protesters.

250 environmental protesters were arrested on Friday night, during a peaceful bicycle protest. When police tried to pen them into an enclosed area, arrests took place.

Planned Parenthood is holding their peaceful march and rally today. Kathleen Turner, actress, will be one of rthe speakers at the rally.

Michelle Goldberg, from Salon, was interviewed and she claimed that ordinary New Yorkers are very angry about the Republicans coming to NYC because for four years, "he has grinded his heel on their values." In response to her interviewer calling the protesters " wack jobs", Goldberg explained that the violent protesters are anarchists and they are not for any candidate . She expressed concern that Karl Rove will connect them to Democrats.

Two Brooklyn men have been arrested in connection with an attempt to blow up the Herald Square subway station. The men are not connected with any protesters and have been under surveillance by the NYPD for months.
