Biased Reporters
Reported by Ellen - August 27, 2004 -
Some of my favorite parts of Fox News Live with Alan Colmes are the interviews he often does with reporters at the beginning of the hour. Alan and the reporter discuss an issue for about five or ten minutes which is way longer than you ever hear the reporter on a Fox news show. Although the reporters are more fair and balanced than they are on the news, it's clear they share their employers' bias or at least act as if.
Tonight, two different reporters were on to discuss - what else? - the Swift Boat Vets for Bush. Catherine Herridge mentioned that Bush's latest effort to do away with so-called 527 ads is "brilliant strategy." That seemed like an unusually admiring remark from a supposedly fair and balanced reporter.
Later, Major Garrett was on talking about the latest Swift Boat allegations against Kerry. Garrett reported on a Swift Boat vet Kerry contacted before the Swift Boat ads came out in an effort to garner support. Garrett snidely insinuated that the timing of Kerry's contact with this person (who Garrett stressed was a supervisor) proved... I couldn't figure out what but I could tell from Garrett's tone that it was something distasteful about Kerry. Once again, it was up to host Alan Colmes to provide the balance as Colmes challenged Garrett by saying he (Colmes) thought the timing proved nothing more than that Kerry knew the attack ads were coming.
