35 Year Vendetta

Bob Dornan, R. Cal., joined Colmes, Crowley and Pat Cadell to discuss Kerry's recent small drop in the polls and the connection to the smear from hell. Cadell was not at all helpful to his party with his pessimistic take on the drop in numbers.Bob Dornan , Vietnam Vet, worked himself into a violent rage. 8/27/04 9:00PM ET

A shot of Kerry at the Veterans Against the War Rally flashed on screen and Dornan was off.
"I followed him around with a camera all day." Dornan claimed that Kerry was"this close to an American Flag being burned." He even pulled out the burnt flag. "I've been waiting 35 years for this," Dornan seethed with rage. Then he pulled out a communist flag claiming that it came from the rally. His rage seemed to be building and, his voice appeared to me to be shaking. "This is not going anywhere when the POW and MIA wives weigh in." He also had a textbook with Kerry's picture claiming it was from Hanoi because Kerry is their hero.
Colmes was visibly angered, accusing Dornan of "red baiting" and guilt by association."Are you accusing John Kerry of being a Communist because he stood near a flag burning."
At this point, Dornan looked, to me, to be crazed with obsession. Pat Cadell tried to inject some reason talking about the anger, after Vietnam, motivating young people.
Dornan's voice was raised as he continued. "I watched him tell people he killed children. I was in fatigues pretending I was one of them."
Comment: I'm sure our politically saavy readers already know about Bob Dornan but I confess, I knew nothing about him until I googled for awhile. I had a hunch that he was connected with Nixon like John O'Neill. But before I got to that, I found some wild stuff. It seems he has a record of using smear tactics in past campaigns.
Also, I found a story from 1985 describing an incident in Congress when he grabbed Rep. Tom Downey, D. by the necktie during a shouting match. It seems that Dornan called Downey a "draft dodging wimp." There was also evidence of Dornan
and Hannity together on many radio broadcasts. Dornan has some serious issues and it's not surprising that he is so involved with the Swiftees.
