Neil, Neil

Reported by Melanie - August 26, 2004 -

Are Fox News' ratings slipping? Are Cavuto's? Over the last three weeks or so, I've noticed an upturn in the number of segments with sexual content and/or sexual overtones shown on Your World w/Neil Cavuto. It happened again (August 26, 2004) today.

Opening the show at 4:00 p.m. ET, Cavuto said, over video of Cindy Crawford: "Cindy Crawford. She's beautiful and to the folks at PETA she is now a bulls eye target. We'll tell you why."

At 4:09 p.m. ET, heading to a break Cavuto said: "The fur is flying. Animal rights group PETA is all over Cindy Crawford and we're all over the story. You gotta hear this."

At 4:09 p.m. ET, heading to a break Cavuto said: "The fur is flying. Animal rights group PETA is all over Cindy Crawford and we're all over the story. You gotta hear this."

At 4:18 p.m. ET a banner appeared on the screen: "Why the Fur's Flying."

At 4:26 p.m. ET again heading to a break, Cavuto said: "Is Cindy Crawford a naughty girl? Why animal rights group PETA says she is and why Cindy is fighting back, and why we're all over it - not all over Cindy - but this, the issue -I'll stop."

At 4:32 p.m. ET, in the Fox Stox segment, Cavuto did a blurb on The Limited Corporation, owner of Victoria's Secret. Evidently Victoria's Secret is putting more clothes on store mannequins in some states. During the segment Fox aired video of Victoria's Secret models parading in underwear down a showroom runway. Cavuto said, "By the way, these are not mannequins we're showing right now."

At 4:46 p.m. ET, heading to a break, Cavuto said: "PETA's having a feta and we're all over it, next."

When the segment about PETA and Crawford finally aired at 4:49 p.m. ET it was a straightforward discussion between Cavuto and Michael McGraw of PETA about Crawford signing a new contract to promote a furrier after having done a things in support of PETA in the past, and PETA's assertion that she's being hypocritical.

(Also, was Neil wearing shoulder pads today? I think he was trying to appeal to Cindy.)
