Only Ten Minutes?

Reported by Eleanor - August 24, 2004 -

Amazing!!! Dayside with Mike Jerrick (Aug. 24, 1:00 p.m.) spent only ten minutes on the smear boat story. That's some kind of record! Before the story aired, Jerrick said something like, "Yes, we're covering it today." (He was almost apologetic. Last night, Jon Stewart said these guys are neither "swift" nor "truthful." By the way, Kerry is on The Daily Show tonight.)

The only new information Dayside covered on the smear boat story was the Howard Dean comment that Bush should apologize for the ads. Dean also said - three times - that Bush broke the law.

The other story worth noting was one about prayer meetings at work. (The influence of Bush's evangelicals, I suppose). This group calls themselves the Marketplace Chaplains. They have 1,600 chaplains on staff and visit 900 work sites. Gil Stricklin, their founder and spokesperson, was interviewed for this story. He seemed really happy about putting prayer in the workplace.

Comment: I'm not against prayer, and it has its place. But the workplace strikes me as an odd place. If Bush wins again, we'll probably be praying everywhere we go - or else - Christian prayers, of course.
