Fog of Words

Reported by Nancy - August 24, 2004 -

Alessandra Staley has an excellent piece in the NYTimes today (8/24) about the fog of war & the fog of cable.

In a stinging analysis of the 24-hour cable news networks' feeding frenzy over the Smear Boat Liars for Bush allegations about Kerry's war record in Vietnam, Staley illustrates just how perfunctory & confusing cable news coverage can be. Her conclusion:

At best, cable news programs swing into action when a crisis or major news development occurs, marshaling their resources to give viewers instant, live access. At their worst, they amplify the loudest voices and blur complexities.

Hard to argue with that.
