Ho Hum

Reported by Nancy - August 23, 2004 -

Yep, FNL is *still* going on (& on, & on, & on) about the SBVTs. This morning (8/23) they're spinning it as coverage of Bob Dole's comments yesterday.

The most outstanding (as it were) moment was when Larry Sabato (from the U of VA Center for Politics, & one of FNL's favorite "commentators") called Bob Dole "one of the most decorated WWII vets". Well, not exactly, Larry. If we're going to get into the kind of game Dole & the GOPs & you want to play, let's do an actual count:

Audie L Murphy was most decorated American combat soldier of WWII . He received every decoration for valor that this country had to offer (including Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart & 11 other WWII-related medals) plus 5 decorations presented to him by France & Belgium.

According to his own website, Bob Dole was twice decorated for heroic achievement, receiving 2 Purple Hearts for his injuries, & the Bronze Star for his attempt to assist a downed radio man.

Not even close, Larry. Bob Dole should apologize to all the veterans he's offended with his silly "my medals are better than your medals" game. And Larry Sabato should apologize to everyone else, for trying to do hagiography instead of sticking to the facts.
