Emphasize This, Minimize That

Reported by Melanie - August 20, 2004 -

During a segment aired today (August 20, 2004) on Dayside w/Linda Vester, Major Garrett reported on a New York Times article (Friendly Fire: The Birth of an Anti-Kerry Ad), purporting to link the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (I love that "for truth" part) with the Bush campaign. During his report, Garrett said that the Kerry camp points out that some of the Swifties supported Kerry during Kerry's l996 re-election bid.

Garrett then aired video of Swiftie Cmdr. George Elliott speaking at a podium with Kerry at his side - presumably footage from that l996 election campaign. Garrett said that Fox News aired that footage "last spring when this whole" issue began to emerge.

COMMENT: We News Hounds began monitoring Fox News in early February. We've been monitoring daily since. I can categorically say that while Fox News may have aired this clip of Cmdr. Elliott speaking in 1996 in support of John Kerry "last spring," they've aired clips of the Swift Boat Veterans speaking against John Kerry hundreds more times this summer. I don't remember seeing the l996 clip at all, and you and I know that when Fox wants to drive home a point, they hammer it for days and weeks on end. I couldn't have missed it had they done that with the clip of Elliott supporting Kerry. Now, one can't escape clips showing Elliott's change of heart.

And, I might add, why has this video been absent from Fox's air waves for the past month?
