"No Stance on Record"
Reported by Melanie - August 17, 2004 -
Fox News did its part today (August 17, 2004) to help promote a "boycott Bruce" campaign launched by Republican New York congressional candidate Marilyn O'Grady. O'Grady has organized a boycott of the "Vote for Change" concert tour benefiting the group America Coming Together and presented by MoveOnPAC. Bruce Springsteen is going to be the headline performer. O'Grady thinks people shouldn't "support a concert tour directly targeted at the President."
Playing devil's advocate, Cavuto asked O'Grady about free speech, to which she replied that everyone has a right to it, but she has a right to advocate for a boycott too. Then the discussion degenerated into the usual Hollywood "over stepping its bounds," tame the "liberal elite," Republicans "not supported by Hollywood," are those who do support Republicans blacklisted? discussion we've all heard a hundred times.
COMMENT: As I was researching for this post, I went to O'Grady's website. I was astonished to see that in the "On the Issues" section of the site, here, O'Grady has "No stance on record" for things like budget and economy, crime, environment, energy and oil, free trade, gun control or even principles and values. Nonetheless, she evidently has time to have a "stance on record" about this, and obviously Fox was happy to publicize it.
