More Bad News for Bush

Reported by Marie Therese - August 13, 2004 -

The O'Reilly Factor. August 12, 2004. 8:38 PM to 8:44 PM EDT.
Guest: Dick Morris, Fox News Political Analyst

O'Reilly notes that the Quinnipiac Poll shows John Kerry ahead in Florida by 7 points (Kerry 49 - Bush 42).

Here are a few of the more interesting quotes from this interview.

MORRIS: "The point is not just the 7 point margin you're talking about. I think you said Nader got 4 points in that poll, so he's really, in effect, 11 points behind, if you put Nader and Kerry together. There's no guarantee, I think, that Nader is on the Florida ballot."

O'Reilly: "What is it in Florida that you believe is driving people away from the President?"

MORRIS: "Demographics, Bill. The huge hispanic non-Cuban in-migration, the increasing black population and the northernization of Florida...it's becoming a northern state."

Later:

O'Reilly: "... in three weeks we're into the Republican Convention. The week after the Labor Day weekend, I expect to see pretty much of a dead heat nationally."

Later:

MORRIS: "First of all, let's just understand something about the electoral college...I did some statistical modeling....I still think that there's a good chance somebody wins this election by 3 or 4 points and the electoral college follows as it inevitably must...If Bush is in a dead heat on Labor Day, he's toast....Now, I think Bush has to open up a significant lead in his convention and in the 9/11 anniversary, which will function kind of like the third national convention, and, I think, on September 15th, Bush has to be ahead of Kerry by 8 or 9 points...."

(Note from Marie Therese: The following two comments were inadvertently left off the original post and were added at 4:20 PM EDT, August 13th, 2004)

O'REILLY: "I don't think the way you do."

MORRIS: "You know who's going to decide who the next President of the United States is gonna be? Osama bin Laden. If he keeps up the pressure successfully or unsuccessfully, it'll reelect Bush."
