Let's Be "Fair & Balanced" Now

Reported by Melanie - August 11, 2004 -

Two US mayors were guests today (August 11, 2004) on Your World w/Neil Cavuto. One was Don Plusquellic, the mayor of Akron, Ohio, a Democrat, and the other was David Wallace, the Republican Mayor of Sugarland, Texas. Both men were on the show to discuss America's crumbling infrastructure, the need for more assistance from the federal government and the need to get what assistance has been given to flow more quickly. The discussion was perfectly polite and civil.

Suddenly, toward the end of the segment, guest host Brenda Buttner turned to Akron mayor Don Plusquellic and said, "You are a Democrat" and then something like, "those sound like Democratic ideas."

At no time did she point out that Sugerland's Republican mayor was a Republican, or say that his ideas sounded like "Republican ideas."

COMMENT: Both men were identified by name and party affiliation in lower third banners at the beginning of the segment. This remark was completely uncalled for. I'll add it to the "can you believe it" list of the big and small ways in which Fox works partisanship into it's shows.
