Snarky E-Mails
Reported by Marie Therese - August 9, 2004 -
John Gibson said in his "My Word" segment (8/5/04, 5:58 PM EDT): "For those of you who have written snarky e-mails in the past saying I never criticize Republicans, this is your lucky day."
And which Republicans does he bash? Ann Coulter? The Rev. Jerry Falwell? The Swift Boat dudes? Rush Limbaugh?
No such luck!
He disses former New Jersey Governor Tom Kean, co- chairman of the 9/11 Commission!!!
Gibson sees red because Gov. Kean had the temerity to tell voters that "they should judge who to cast their vote for in the November Presidential election based on which candidate most closely follows the dictates of the 9/11 Commission."
Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic candidate, has wholeheartedly endorsed the findings of the Commission and publicly stated that, if elected, he will appoint a National Director of Intelligence and, more importantly, allow him/her to control the purse strings.
President Bush at first stalled by saying he needed time to mull it all over (wake up, George, that's what we paid the Commission to do!), then finally relented and announced that he would support creating the position of the Intelligence Director but without the all-important monetary authority.
GIBSON (ever the man on a mission): "But hang on just one minute. Who set this Commission up as God? Who said this political body, posing as non-partisan or bi-partisan, should be given the power to throw lighning bolts down from Olympus? What happened here? Did somebody put something in the water?"
He then goes on to make the rather strange argument that, because the Commission chose to retain former Clinton advisor, Jamie Gorelick, as a member, this in and of itself negates the findings of the whole Commission!
GIBSON: "How can Kean put up with the presence of Jamie Gorelick on the Commission - who should have been in a witness chair, being grilled - and still say with the straight face that voters should choose the next President on the basis of how thoroughly a candidate follows the orders of a panel that includes such a conflict of interest?"
Yet another case of FOX rushing to stick it to anyone who casts aspersions on the President.
Because, FOX knows that, if Kerry wins, their days of exclusive access to the centers of power in the White House are over.
And, if there's a Democratic sweep, they can kiss a big chunk of their market share good-bye.
