Hairy Issues

Reported by Deborah - August 7, 2004 -

After showing a brief soundbite of Kerry and Edwards ending a speech with " and we have better hair" while laughing with the crowd, Paige Hopkins interviewed a hair expert to discuss this weighty topic. Although this segment was framed in a humorous way, there was a distinct bias against Democrats evident.
Fox News Live 8/7/04 2:50PM ET

This hair expert,Gary Hitzer, claimed to be an expert on the importance of political candidate's hair in the outcome of elections. He and Hopkins actually spent several minutes grading the hair of Bush, Kerry and Edwards acknowledging that Kerry and Edwards have great hair and people unfortunatly tend to vote on image instead of issues.
When asked to grade Bill Clinton's hair, he said that Clinton had the "evangelical look, giving them both a good chuckle. The hair expert brought up that very old story from the first Clinton campaign about Clinton blocking air traffic while getting a $400 haircut. The original story had the haircut priced at $200. but the price probably needed to be adjusted for inflation.
When Hopkins asked Dr. Hair how the candidates will come out using the "hair" measurement, he said that Kerry and Edwards have such great hair ,they will lose the bald vote making Bush the winner.

comment: Silly and humorous on the surface but there was a clear message for Fox viewers. Kerry and Edwards are appealing to the superficial image voter who can be fooled by appearance. Just look at Clinton with his "evangelical" look which fooled many voters. Clinton was so vain that he held up traffic while he got his $400. haircut. Bush has good hair but is above vanity and primping.
