Sleazy Ad

Reported by Judy - August 6, 2004 -

Republican John McCain has criticized it, one of the people involved has changed his mind and expressed regret about it, but Fox and Friends today (August 6) still had to show part of the sleazy ad attacking John Kerry's war record put out by Swift Boat Vets for Truth.

The Fox and Friends co-hosts (8:25 a.m. EDT) interviewed Van Oddell, a spokesperson for the group, who said Kerry was not fit to be commander-in-chief. He then repeated baseless charges against Kerry, and Fox showed part of the ad with swift boat veterans attacking Kerry.

John McCain has called the ad dishonest and dishonorable, according to an article on salon. And the Boston Globe reports that the lieutenant commander who said Kerry did not deserve some of his medals regrets having said that.

With the story being attacked even by Republicans and undermined by one of the key sources, did Fox really have to show the ad? Could it have had the same discussion without showing a discredited ad? Was it fair for Kilmeade to introduce the segment by noting that the group claims "John Kery is lying about his record?" Wouldn't it have been more balanced to note the Boston Globe's findings?

The Hounds report, you decide.
