The Pollsters vs the Crowds
Reported by Marie Therese - August 4, 2004 -
Carl Cameron, on the Kerry bus tour, reported from Beloit, WI, on the Big Story with John Gibson on August 3, 2004 at 5:05 PM EDT:
"He [Kerry] has been storming the country by bus now. By the time he finishes the 18 states that he will visit over the course of two weeks plus the five or six states that John Edwards will have visited, they expect the campaign to have covered some 3,500 miles. And, having driven the first 1,400 of them, I can tell you, he has seen several hundred thousand people, a lot of the rallies have been 15,000 strong. "
Did he say "SEVERAL HUNDRED THOUSAND?!!" In 1,400 miles? Wait a minute! Something's not right!
Isn't Kerry the guy the polls have in a dead heat with George Bush?
To date, I haven't heard audience numbers in the hundreds of thousands for the President. Certainly FOX News Channel would have trumpeted such a thing "ad infinitum" across the airwaves "ad nauseam". (Translation: They'd have reported on it forever until we were sick of it.)
Has Campaign Carl been hypnotized by the Democrats?
Have they brainwashed him into seeing things that aren't there?
Does he need de-programming? Maybe he's spent too much time with forward-looking, positive, patriotic, on-message Democrats and he's lost his objectivity?
It's either that or the polls are just not right.
