Follow the Bouncing Poll

Reported by Marie Therese - August 3, 2004 -

On today's Big Story with John Gibson subsitute host, Judge Andrew Napolitano, added his magisterial baritone to the chorus of pundits who are oh-so-surprised at the lack of a Kerry bounce. Since this chorus of voices is in such perfect harmony across a wide range of media outlets, I felt the urge to compose new lyrics for a favorite old song ("Where, oh where, has my little dog gone?"). Unfortunately, I can't remember the bridge, so you have to sing the chorus over and over again! (Or just read it as a poem.) Mi....mi....mi...mi....

Where, oh where, has my convention bounce gone?
Where, oh where, can it be?
I lost it somewhere in the vast wasteland
We lovingly call T.V.

The networks were dumb and blind as well
O'Reilly talked over it all
Republican flacks were given free rein
To bash and to slash and to maul.

As soon as our speakers were barely done
Shills rushed with glee to the fray
And tore apart everything we said
We're dunces and fools and we're gay!

Just wait til August and then it's our turn
Of course we'll get the same time
To bash and to slash and to maul George Bush
His policies, foibles and crime.

If you believe the words you've just read
I've got a nice bridge to sell
We all know Georgie and Dickie will bask
In plaudits and compliments swell.

The Dems will get not one little chance
To tear the G. O. P. down.
Using "stature of office" and prerogatives
They'll march in Liberty's gown.

With red and white and blue in the mix
God and country will be
Paraded on stage and wrapped around
The Republican powers-that-be.

Bill and Sean will grovel and fawn
Over Condie and Donnie and John
Laura and Lynne will never be asked
"Is it better when husbands are gone?"

So now I pine for good old days
Of backroom deals and smoke
When media types reported "facts"
And never, ever uttered a joke!!
