Teresa Kerry and Marlene Dietrich
Reported by Marie Therese - July 28, 2004 -
In today's Big Story with John Gibson, during his "My Word" segment (5:58 PM EDT), the ever-sarcastic Gibson said: "Am I the only one or did it seem like I was watching Marlene Dietrich last night. It was THK, of courses, Teresa Heinz Kerry, your Democratic nominee for First Lady."
Here's my answer to Mr. Gibson:
Dear Mr. Gibson:
How thoughtful of you to compare Mrs. Kerry to Marlene Dietrich in your "My Word" segment today.
As you know, Ms. Dietrich was a true patriot who risked her life many times during her 500 appearances before American troops in WWII. She raised thousands of dollars for the war effort and regularly went to USO canteens to cheer up the boys.
Although born in Germany, she was passionately opposed to fascism of any kind and, in fact, after the war received the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the French Chevaliere de la Legion .
I know that Mrs. Kerry has a deep and abiding love for America. As she said in her speech to the Convention last night, she has first-hand knowledge of what it is to live under a dictatorship so she values highly the freedom she enjoys here in her adoptive country. She will make a magnificent First Lady.
I can't wait to vote for her husband.
Sincerely,
Marie Therese
