Angry Democrats & Young Guns of The Party

Reported by Melanie - July 27, 2004 -

Today (July 27, 2004) on Dayside w/Linda Vester there was a little of this, and a little of that.

The show started out with two segments, comprising 20 minutes, about the missing Salt Lake City woman, Lori Hacking.

From there, it was on to whether or not PG-13 is "too risque for teens." Then to a news break and about two minutes of promotion for Bill O'Reilly's interview tonight with Michael Moore; Fox calling it, in a full screen promo, an "explosive interview."

Then at 1:35 to Rich Lowry of the National Review and Ellis Henican of Newsday for some Democrat bashing. Fox aired a part of Al Gore's speech from last night's Democratic National Convention in which Gore jokes about winning, losing, or "the third" option - which applied to him. Lowry chuckled but said something about how in reality there's deep anger hidden in Al Gore - the Republican line of the week - anger that looms in all Democrats. Then they moved on to criticise The Daily Show for a minute before getting to their favorite, Theresa Heinz Kerry for a few good pecks.

At 1:40 p.m. we saw a full fledged FOX NEWS ALERT, bringing us the stunning news that the families of Lori and Mark Hacking in Salt Lake City were emptying out the Hacking apartment.

At 1:44 p.m. a new daily segment called "Young Guns" of the Democratic party. (Comment: Angry Democrats and "Young Guns" of the party? Interesting choice for a title, huh? Make all Democrats out as people you should be sure to stay away from or their anger might boil over and you'll get shot.) This was interesting because the guest, Erica Payne, of Catalyst Partners (No link provided because there are several companies with a name like this and I'm not sure which one she's affiliated with.) is writing a book, tentatively titled: Jesus Was a Democrat. Payne pointed out the ways in which Republican "values" seem to go against what Jesus would teach - respect for the earth, providing health care for all, etc. Several times during the segment the Dayside audience booed, without comment from Vester.

Then at 1:53 p.m. ET to breaking news about the body of a 16 year old girl having been found in Toms River, NJ.

At 1:54 p.m. ET to Carol McKinley in Denver reporting on note-card sized flyers put on cars overnight offering a $5,000 reward to kill a Denver Police Officer.

Then, at 1:58 p.m. another Alert about the body of the NJ girl found.

COMMENT: Exhausting.
