Fox Turns Protesters Into Terrorists

Reported by Ellen - July 24, 2004 -

A chilling video story on FOXnews.com, called Civil Disobedients, is a blatant attempt to make protesters look like terrorists. Without citing sources or providing much in the way of hard facts, the screen says, "Political Protesters Vow to Use Terrorist Tactics."

The unnamed reporter in the video stream claims that "anarchists" are "vowing to disrupt the conventions, cripple police forces and dust their clothing with explosive powder to trick bomb-sniffing dogs." Still no sources cited. Who are these anarchists? We are never told.

In an apparent effort to cast suspicion on all protesters, the reporter adds, "So what may look like relatively harmless behavior - a few men in black hoods throwing backpacks in a building - may no longer be so innocent." Still no sources cited. No statistics or any evidence that the reporter has done any kind of investigation, either.

Near the end of the report is an opposing view claiming that terrorism fears are an excuse to limit protests. That is followed by the reporter's conclusion: "Police won't be taking any chances and they might not be so tolerant."

This is a clear case of Fox not reporting, just deciding.
