O'Reilly Lies About Jeremy Glick Again
Reported by Melanie - July 22, 2004 -
On July 20, 2004 on "The O'Reilly Factor," (8:00 p.m. ET), Bill O'Reilly renewed his attacks on Jeremy Glick.
Jeremy Glick's father died in the World Trade Center. Prior to the start of the war on Iraq, Glick signed a petition opposing the war. On February 4, 2003, Jeremy Glick bravely appeared on O'Reilly's show.
Predictably, O'Reilly did most of the talking (and then the yelling). O'Reilly was extraordinarily rude, even cruel to Glick because of Glick's antiwar position.
Eventually O'Reilly cut the interview short. Glick was escorted to the "green room," where he was told that he should leave the building because the staff wasn't sure what O'Reilly might do to him.
(You can see Jeremy Glick explain the incident in the film Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism.)
I met Jeremy Glick on July 11, 2004 in New York City. Jeremy Glick is a kind, thoughtful man. Bill O'Reilly missed an opportunity to have an exchange with a wonderful human being. Unfortunately for O'Reilly and his viewers, they didn't get to hear much of what Glick had to say or to get to know a little about his ideas and beliefs; O'Reilly was doing too much yelling.
Here is more information on what happened on July 20, 2004, as O'Reilly again resurrected his attacks on Jeremy Glick: Media Matters for America.
I urge everyone who reads this post to email O'Reilly and tell him to leave Jeremy Glick alone, or invite him back onto the show, and actually let him speak this time. O'Reilly appears incapable of summarizing what happened in an accurate way and it's not fair to Jeremy Glick for O'Reilly to lie about what happened in the original Feburary 4, 2003 interview.
