Political Hubris
Reported by Eleanor - July 21, 2004 -
Fox & Friends (July 21, 7:15 a.m.) continued the story of Sandy Berger with Joe Digenova and words like "negligent handling of classified documents; top secret code word documents; operational information about U.S. intelligence; crown jewels of counter intelligence; frightening; disturbing, etc. What kind of verbal information and documents did he deliver to the Kerry campaign; if he wants to be secretary of state..." etc.
Digenova continued, "I'm not saying he did it, but given the nature of what was compromised, it's very difficult for the Justice Department not to charge him with at least a misdemeanor." Tom Delay said at 7:33, "All I know is what I read in the paper, but it looks like a third rate burglary."
Comment: This man was head of national security for years, a position requiring the highest degree of trustworthiness imaginable. He said he was preparing for the 9/11 Commission hearing and made a mistake for which he has humbly apologized. Since Berger kept us safe for years in his highly classified position, if we can't trust Berger, we can't trust anyone. Using the media to criminalize the man without giving him the benefit of the doubt is the highest form of political hubris.
