Overdone Berger
Reported by Chrish - July 21, 2004 -
The grilling continued on Studio B today, July 20, as Shepard Smith reminded us four times (3:06,:14,:19,:23 EDT) that there's a storm brewing over Sandy Berger's handling of sensitive documents.
The "fair and balanced" (yes, it's back) discussions, commentary, and clips left this Newshound unenlightened about what has actually happened thus far, muddied as it was with what is conjectured to have happened.
One thing for certain, however, as Campaign Carl Cameron told us in his daily dig at 3:14 EDT, is that there is an implication for Kerry. Since "he has criticized GWB for mishandling intelligence and said the Bush administration had been sloppy about it...how he performs and how he reacts with one of his advisors facing this particular investigation could be a measure of how seriously he takes intelligence breaches, and Republicans will be looking for him to take bold steps or perhaps suggest that he doesn't get it and has been too weak."
Comment: As Berger does have ties to the Kerry campaign and has briefed Kerry personally several times, it is appropriate to note the relationship. The recognizable Fox tactic is to speculate and leave the message about Kerry, "...he doesn't get it and has been too weak" ringing in the viewers ears. Always wrap up with a negative!
