No face time for Kerry

Reported by Chrish - July 16, 2004 -

On the Fox News Live "You Decide 2004" segment July 13, Mike Emanuel reported on Bush's activities du jour while we saw different clips of him (Bush): walking to a podium as flags and Bush/Cheney signs were waved and displayed, signing something with a group of suits standing behind him,

walking with daughter Barbara, and Bush speaking out against Kerry, this one with audio. When we went to Campaign Carl Cameron at 3:09 EDT, there was no video of Kerry as Carl spoke. There were graphics listing the announced speakers at the DNC later this month and a recitation by Carl of Kerry's message, "Stronger at home, respected in the world." Commenting on the choice of speakers, Cameron speculated that Ted Kennedy, not a featured speaker, would "overshadow" Kerry.

Comment: Allowing Bush to get his message out from his lips to our ears, and denying the same coverage to Kerry, using Campaign Carl as an interpreter, is a common ploy on Fox. There is only one candidate you need to listen to, this tactic tells the viewers. Trust us.
Additionally, the repeated use of "overshadow" in regards to Kerry and (Kennedy, Hillary, John Edwards) insinuates that Kerry is a small man, diminished when there is another forceful person around. (I do not have adequate documentation on specific instances, as I was not yet aware of the trend, but will note it when it happens again.) This is another example of opinion/spin masquerading as news.
