Treating Guest w/Respect Depending on Their Party Affiliation
Reported by Melanie - July 15, 2004 -
Commerce Secretary Don Evans appeared on Your World w/Neil Cavuto today (July 15, 2004) at 4:21 p.m. ET. Just after introducing Evans, Cavuto ran a clip from John Kerry's speech this morning in Philadelphia at the annual convention of the NAACP. During the clip, Kerry was speaking about jobs.
Don Evans, of course, wasn't concerned about anything having to do with the economy and he spoke about, among other things, the trends being "very, very powerful." Cavuto was polite and listened intently.
In the interest of "fair and balanced" (as Cavuto pointed out), the next guest was Robert Reich, the Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton. Reich spoke for approximately the same length of time as Evans but said, among other things, that the new jobs "are not jobs to write home about."
During Reich's appearance, he spoke essentially four times. Cavuto interrupted him the first three times; the segment ended at the end of the fourth.
COMMENT: Watch for this yourself. See how administration and pro-Bush guests are given time to talk, they're listened to by the host, and they're treated respectfully. Then, when a liberal or a Democrat comes on, notice how the host seems eager to hurry that guest up, how that guest is interrupted or talked over and rushed. It happens all the time on Fox.
