Hillary Artillery
Reported by Nancy - July 15, 2004 -
The obsession with Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton continues at full bore, with endless speculation today about why she's not a major speaker at the upcoming Dem National Convention. At the end of today's show (5:53pm EDT), Heather Nauert interviewed Jamal Simmons (a "Dem strategist") on this topic, but couldn't make him toe the Fox-approved line ...
despite using nearly every trick in the Fox repertory. Nauert interrupted & talked over Simmons, sneered, "tsk"-ed, shook her head in disbelief, shrugged her shoulders, raised her eyebrows, & generally attempted to give the impression that Simmons (& Dems in general) were trying to hide some deep, dark secret. Simmons, by contrast, remained calm & articulate, pointing out the flaws & silliness in Nauert's assumptions, & repeating himself when needed (when Nauert hadn't let him finish a sentence). The one trick Nauert didn't pull was the 'cut-off-the-mic' ploy, but when she tried to end the interview by saying "OK" to Simmons, then turning immediately to Gibson & saying that Simmons had just "admitted" that Kerry excluded Clinton, Simmons jumped right back in & advised her "Don't put words in my mouth."
Comment: Apparently Fox considers this a good substitute for actually educating voters about issues. What is it about the Clintons that brings out the foaming-at-the-mouth response from right wing wackos?
