Guests Who Don't Toe the Line

Reported by Nancy - July 14, 2004 -

They're few & far between at Fox, but today FNL had two such guests. David Asman proved unable to cope with them, when they refused to take his bait & wouldn't allow themselves to be interrupted.

At 11:38am EDT, Asman interviewed Vaughn Ververs (editor, National Journal) about Senator Hillary Clinton not being a major speaker at the upcoming DNC. FNL had been touting this story all morning, using banners like "Senator Snubbed". Ververs simply refused to play the "bash Hillary" game that FNL so loves. He calmly pointed out that not everyone can speak at the convention & that the Dems quite rightly don't want to give a prominent spot on the agenda to someone who might distract attention from the main attraction. Asman was reduced to invoking Reagan (who spoke at the 1976 RNC) in a vain attempt to get Ververs to hit the expected theme.

At 12:32pm EDT, after the Senate voted against discussing a proposed Constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, Asman interviewed Tammy Bruce & Tony Snow. No surprises from Snow, but Bruce (with impeccable right-wing credentials: she's a Fox News "consultant", has a syndicated radio talk show & writes for such "outlets" as NewsMax & Front Page) refused to let Asman & Snow interrupt her or talk over her & got in some great zingers: "This shows that Bush is a politician like all other politicians" & "theocrats like Frist & Santorum".

Comment: How refreshing!
