The xenophobic John Gibson - mouthpiece for the rabid right - continues to beat the drums for war with Iran. Bush and the neocons - unfazed by utter failure in Iraq - want to put the next notch in their Axis of Evil gun.
Gibson uses as MEMRI (the Middle East Media Research Institute) as a source for his comments. A check of their website (www.memri.org) doesn't tell you much. Only a P.O. Box in Washington D.C., a phone number and an e-mail address. The site says it does translations of Middle Eastern media for those who don't speak Arabic. A quick scan of the archives reveals that the translations are actually reports filed by Dr. Nimrod Raphaeli (Senior Analyst of MEMRI's Middle East Economic Studies Program), Natalie Mendelsohn (Research Associate at MEMRI), Ayelet Savyon (Director of the Iranian Media Project) and Aluma Dankowitz (Director of MEMRI's Reform Project).
As justification for his "call to arms" Gibson uses a MEMRI-translated statement by an unnamed Iranian official calling for the "destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilization." From this he goes on to say:
That's us, folks.These are the guys now building the bomb after telling the Brits, the French and the Germans that they would ratchet back on the bomb-building activities.
They were lying to buy time, same as North Korea lied to former presidents Clinton and Carter [Aside: What happened to Reagan and Bush?]
The Wall Street Journal says it's time for the U.S. to start encouraging the democrats in Iran to take the country back from the crazy mullahs.
Obviously...but Iran should also be told that the U.S. has not been worn out by Iraq, and that we are still willing to use our military power in our own defense.

BIG QUESTION: If Gibson and his crowd get their way, how will the sons and daughters of the rich get out of the draft this time?
