Newt Speaks
Reported by Eleanor - July 9, 2004 -
On Fox News (July 9, 5:05 p.m.), Newt Gingrich accused democrats and others of "selective reality" as they listened to the Senate report on pre-war Intelligence. He said heatedly, "What makes you think the media will say anything helpful to George W. Bush?" (Newt must be watching something other than Fox. Everything Fox says is helpful to Bush.)
Newt continued his rant with Putin said Iraq was "plotting" to attack America, and the democrats are blaming the White House, when Bush "inherited eight years of weakening our intelligence." He ended with, Do you actually "believe that Tony Blair and the president of the United States" would think that everyone is "so stupid" (he names everyone who might be stupid) and they said, "Let's go out and deliberately exaggerate this."
Comment: No, Newt, I don't actually think they had that conversation, but that's what they did anyway. Making a case for non-existent Iraqi WMD was the only way to get US citizens to go along with a pre-emptive war against Iraq. I have yet to figure out why Blair went along with this "stupid" scheme.
