It's the economy,...or is it?

Reported by Chrish - July 7, 2004 -

On FNL July 7, Shep Smith and Lara Rhame, an economist, agreed the economy would be the deciding factor in November's elections. It is looking "terrific", and the GDP growth is the best in 20 years. Why aren't people more positive about the economy?

Well, we're told, unemployment is still high, 5.6%, inflation is creeping up, wages are stagnant, and people are worried about the job situation. So far, so good - all reasonable arguments for not feeling good about the supposedly robust economy.
But wait - it turns out we are just not psychologically caught up to the good economy yet - it hasn't sunk in. We are such dolts!

Jeff Birnbaum of the Washington Post replaces Lara to reiterate and expand upon what she and Shep just reported, saying that people are not happy with high gas prices and the type of jobs that are available. According to him, most people say the economy is the #1 concern, but if we "dig a little deeper" we'll find that our #1 concern is really national and homeland security and the war.

Comment: So, got that? The economy is improving at a terrific rate, so feel good and re-elect Bush even though you are having a harder time making ends meet than a year or two ago, because you don't care about that as much as you think you do; it's really the fear, the insecurity, stupid, and who has kept the evildoers away since the deadliest attack on US soil happened on his watch?
